Burnham, coast par. and vil. with ry. sta., mid. Somerset, 7½ miles N. of Bridgwater and 146¾ miles SW. of London -- par., 3872 ac. land and 430 water, pop. 3645; vil., pop. 1904; P.O., T.O., 2 Banks; is a much-frequented watering-place, and has a fine sandy beach; the sea recedes 4 miles at low water; at E. side of entrance of river Parret are 2 lighthouses 99 and 36 ft. high, with intermittent and fixed lights (Burnham, within Bridgwater Bar) 91 and 23 ft. above high water and seen 15 and 9 m.
