Seaton Carew, small town and township with ry. sta., Stranton par., Durham - township (wholly within the parl. limits of Hartlepool), 2663 ac., 177 tidal water and 1201 foreshore, pop. 1734; town, 2 miles S. of West Hartlepool, pop. 925; P.O., T.O.; is a sea-bathing resort with a fine level stretch of sands 5 miles in extent. N. of the town is Seaton Lighthouse, 70 ft. high, with 2 fixed lights 89 and 34 ft. above high water and seen 13 miles.
