Whickham, manufacturing town and par., Durham - par. (containing Dunston and part of Marley Hill), 5961 ac., pop. 7976; town, 3½ miles SW. of Gateshead, pop. 3609; P.O., T.O. Whickham has ironworks, chain and nail factories, wireworks, chemical works, saw-mills, roperies, fire-brick kilns, &c. The entire par. is a local government dist.
