HORKSTOW, a parish, with a village, in GlanfordBrigg district, Lincoln; on the New Ancholme river, 4 miles SW of Barton-upon-Humber r. station. Post town, Barton-upon-Humber, under Hull. Acres, 2, 085. Real property, £3, 246. Pop., 245. Houses, 41. The property is divided among a few. The manor belongs to the Earl of Yarborough. Horkstow Hall, built on the site of the Diamond Dale priory, is now a farm house. Roman coins, and fragments of three tesselated pavements, were found near the Hall in 1796. A suspension bridge is here over the Ancholme river. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Lincoln. Value, £201. Patron, the Earl of Yarborough. The church is ancient, but very good. and has a small tower. There is a Wesleyan chapel.
