APPLETON-NUN, a seat in Bolton-Percy parish, W. R. Yorkshire; at the confluence of the Wharfe and the Ouse, 5½ miles SE of Tadcaster. It was the site of a Cistertian nunnery, founded by Adeliza de St. Quinton, in the reign of Stephen; and it is now the property of Sir W. M. E. Milner, Bart.
