Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for RED TARN

RED TARN, a mountain lakelet on the W border of Westmoreland; in a hollow at an elevation of about 2, 400 feet above sea level, overhung at the head by thelofty mural crest of Helvellyn, and on the sides by the sharp rocky ridges of Swirrel-Edge and Striding-Edge. It is about a mile long; and it sends off a streamlet into Glenridding.
