In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Yarrow like this:
Yarrow, par., partly in Peeblesshire, but chiefly in Selkirkshire, on Yarrow Water, 41,046 ac., pop. 639; P.O.; the church is 9 miles W. of Selkirk.
