In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Farmanby like this:
FARMANBY, a township in Ellerburn parish, N. R. Yorkshire; 2 miles ESE of Pickering. Acres, 2, 530. Real property, £2, 397. Pop., 467. Houses, 103.
The location is approximately where the name "Farmanby" appears on the original OS 6 inch to 1 mile maps from the 1846-63, using maps on the North Yorkshire County Council site.
