In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Glennamaddy like this:
Glennamaddy, vil., Boyounah par., N. co. Galway, 9 miles SE. of Dunmore and 15 NW. of Tuam ry. sta., pop. 159; P.O., called Glenamaddy, 1 Bank.
